Delivery Hero winds down in Germany, ceding ground to Just Eat

Delivery Hero is winding down its meals supply operations in Germany, simply 4 months after formally relaunching its companies in the nation.

The Berlin-headquartered meals supply agency’s Foodpanda unit will exit six German cities together with Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart, in accordance to a press launch Wednesday.

“Despite having built up two fantastic Foodpanda teams showing great progress, it has become increasingly difficult to create true value for our ecosystem in these countries.”

Delivery Hero did not rule out job losses. The firm stated it will attempt to transfer Foodpanda workers to different roles throughout the group firm. Staff who don’t stay with the corporate will obtain a severance bundle.

Shares of Delivery Hero climbed 6% Wednesday morning, making it the most important gainer in the pan-European Stoxx 600 index. Just Eat Takeaway, Delivery Hero’s essential rival in Europe, was the second-best performing inventory, up 4%.
